PCOS Diet Chart: A 7-Day Indian Meal Chart (Veg and Non-Veg)
There is no single "PCOS diet" that works for everyone. What helps most people with PCOS or PCOD is a steady pattern: regular meals, protein at every meal, plenty of fibre from vegetables, dals and whole grains, and fewer refined carbs and sugary drinks.
This chart turns that pattern into a week of familiar Indian meals. Use it as a starting point, not a strict rule. If you want the reasons behind each choice, read our PCOS diet plan for Indian women.
How to build a PCOS-friendly plate
For lunch and dinner, aim for:
- Half the plate: vegetables or salad (sabzi, raita with cucumber, stir-fries, soups)
- A quarter: protein (dal, chana, rajma, paneer, tofu, curd, eggs, chicken or fish)
- A quarter: whole grains (1-2 phulkas, brown or regular rice in a measured katori, millet roti, dalia)
- A small amount of healthy fat: a teaspoon of ghee or oil, a few nuts or seeds
This keeps meals filling and slows down how fast the carbs hit your blood sugar.

Non-vegetarian swaps
Swap any protein above with:
- 2 boiled eggs or an egg bhurji at breakfast
- Grilled or curry chicken (about a palm-size portion) at lunch or dinner
- Fish curry or tandoori fish in place of paneer or soya
Keep the vegetable half of the plate the same.
Foods to eat more often
- Dals, chana, rajma, sprouts, soya, paneer, curd, eggs, fish
- Green leafy vegetables, gourds, beans, cauliflower, cabbage
- Whole grains and millets: jowar, bajra, ragi, oats, dalia, brown rice
- Whole fruits (instead of juice)
- Nuts and seeds in small portions
Foods to limit (not ban)
- Sugary drinks, packaged juices, sweets and bakery items
- Maida-based foods: white bread, biscuits, naan, pizza bases
- Deep-fried snacks (samosa, pakora, namkeen) as a regular habit
- Large portions of white rice without dal or vegetables
You do not need to cut out rice or roti. Portion size and what you eat with it matter more.
Tips that make the chart work
- Do not skip breakfast. Long gaps often lead to overeating later.
- Eat at similar times each day. It helps with hunger and cravings.
- Pair carbs with protein. For example, fruit with nuts, or poha with curd.
- Drink water through the day. Limit sugary tea or coffee.
- Move daily. Food works better alongside regular exercise. See exercise for PCOS.
- Avoid crash diets. Very low-calorie diets are hard to keep up and can make cycles and energy worse.
When to get personal advice
Speak to your doctor before changing your diet if you take medicines for PCOS, diabetes or thyroid, are pregnant or trying to conceive, or have a history of disordered eating. A dietitian can adjust portions for your weight, activity and lab reports.
Frequently asked questions
Can I eat rice with PCOS?
Yes. Keep the portion measured (about 1 katori cooked), and eat it with dal, vegetables and curd rather than alone.
Is this PCOS diet chart good for weight loss?
It is built around portion control and filling foods, which supports gradual weight loss for many people. Your exact portions depend on your needs. Read how to plan a weight-loss diet for women.
Is a PCOD diet chart different from a PCOS diet chart?
No. In India, PCOD and PCOS are often used for the same condition. The food approach is the same. See PCOS vs PCOD.
Do I need to stop dairy or gluten?
Not by default. There is no strong evidence that everyone with PCOS must avoid dairy or gluten. Cut them only if you have a diagnosed intolerance or your doctor advises it.
How soon will I see results?
It varies. Many people notice better energy and fewer cravings within a few weeks of regular meals. Changes in weight or cycles usually take longer.
